*️⃣ For these criteria, the points granted will depend on the “Band” the league/club belongs to – See Part 1

⚽️ Player’s International Appearances

Due to the complexity of calculating GBE points, the only criteria I will be demonstrating is national team playing time as it’s simple and gets you started…… 👌🏽😊.

A player shall be granted the number of points set out in the table below, in respect of his international appearances.

🟢 Example 1

Player A is Nigerian and has made 90-100% international appearances for his country.

In the latest FIFA ranking (released on 19 Dec 2024), Nigeria is ranked at 44 (which on the chart falls between 31-50). So, as Player A has made 90-100% appearances, he would get an autopass 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

🟢🟢 Example 2

Player B is Liberian and has made 90-100% international appearances for his country.

In the latest FIFA ranking, Liberia is ranked at 145 (which on the chart falls on the 51+). So, even though Player B has made 90-100% appearances, he would only score 2 points. Which means he needs to obtain 13 more points via the other criteria listed above.

🟢🟢🟢 Example 3

Player C is Senegalese and has made 10-19% international appearances for his country.

In the latest FIFA ranking, Senegal is ranked at 17 (which on the chart falls between 11-20). Although Senegal is ranked 17, Player C has only made 10-19% appearances, and would therefore only score 8 points, and needs 7 more to qualify for a GBE.

I have come across online calculators for estimating GBE points, however, due to the various parameters required for an accurate figure, if they are not kept up to date, they become useless. The ones I have used produced incorrect results.

In Part 3 we will take a look at the Elite Significant Contribution (ESC).

PS – Please note that countries’ FIFA rankings change periodically so you will need to check for the current ranking when performing your calculations.
