This is an issue I have never come across before and never thought I would.. 💆🏾♀️
A few days ago, I received a call from a distressed player who was looking for help with a contract termination. He had signed a blank employment contract with a club in North Africa, i.e. with no information filled in. 😢⚽️
He explained that he had discussed the terms of the contract with his “agent” back in January 2024. They agreed on a six-month contract. One day during training, a club director approached him and asked for his signature and thumbprint on a blank contract. He was assured that the details (as previously discussed) would be filled in and he would receive a copy, which never happened.
After six months, he expected to be released, but was informed that his contract was still in effect. The club refused to provide a copy of the contract, leading him to seek help from the Football Association. When he finally obtained a copy, he discovered he had unknowingly agreed to a 4.5-year contract with a salary that was only 20% of what he would need to survive in that country.
The club’s representatives are insisting the player signed the contract so if he wants a mutual termination, he should pay the club double of what the contract is worth, as compensation 😖.
This serves as a warning to all players – never sign a contract without fully understanding its contents, and certainly NEVER EVER sign a blank contract!!! 🤷🏽♀️
Meanwhile, the club hasn’t even respected the terms of the contract and the player is owed the “peanut” salary he was promised.
