Let’s talk about the FIFA Clearing House – PART 1

Let’s talk about the FIFA CLEARING HOUSE 😥😩😭 – PART 1

This is an area that may not be familiar to a lot of people, however, over the past few days/weeks this topic has been a recurring one in my circles so I’d like to hear the experiences of others in the (African) football circle. Just please try not to swear 😂😂😂. I just need some reassurances.

I was extremely happy when I first heard about the FIFA Clearing House (“FCH”); many years prior to its launch. I believed that it would be very good for African training clubs, who either didn’t know about their entitlements in relation to training and solidarity compensation, or who have attempted to claim these payments, but are constantly swerved by European clubs (more on this in subsequent posts).

FIFA’s website states that one of the reasons the Clearing House was set up was due to “a significant imbalance in world football and insufficient rewards for training clubs”. So to help “remedy” this, the FCH will ensure that training rewards (training compensation and solidarity contribution) are paid to the clubs that deserve them”.

Remedy? 🤨

Quite frankly, I think it’s going to be a total disaster for African training clubs in its current form 🤦🏽‍♀️.

Why?

This article will be waaaaaay too long if I started that now, so I’ll save that for another post. For those who are familiar with the process, there is a hint of one of the issues I’ve come across in the poster below. I’m still trying to help the poor guy get what is his…

FIFA’s website also states that, “this project has been endorsed by numerous stakeholders, such as former US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, the Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) and the European Parliament in its report on EU sports policy”. It’s okay Europe and the US endorsing it because their systems work well, but what measures were put in place for African training clubs to support them with onboarding and setting up Transfer Matching System (TMS) accounts? Many don’t have this!! I’ve had to pay for some clubs to set up TMS and FIFA Connect ID because they couldn’t afford it.

I’d be very interested to know which African entity (if any) was involved in the consultations for FCH and how they came to the conclusion that this could work for African clubs 😖.
