ATTENDING CONFERENCES 🔊🔊🔊
New and aspiring football agents have been asking how best to grow their network…
My answer…. ⭐️ Attend conferences ⭐️
Obviously that’s not the only solution, however, the importance of attending conferences cannot be overstated. Oh yeah… hashtag#Linkedin is amazing for networking too 😉👊🏽🙌🏽
During my time as an engineer with Altrad Babcock I attended lots of conferences, home and abroad, including those where I presented the company’s work on hashtag#CarbonCaptureandStorage (CCS). Sometimes it was in front of high school students, and other times it was in front of industry leaders, partners and competitors, who would fire questions at me 😅😱. One of my memorable conferences was in Düsseldorf, Germany 🇩🇪. The more conferences I attended as a young graduate, the more I understood the value of attending them, the more knowledgeable I became, and the more my CCS network grew.
Moving into the football legal and agency world has been no different. I attend conferences to mix and mingle with like-minded people. I enjoy listening to other people’s experiences (good and bad) and seeking opportunities to synergise.
Some come into the industry because they have sons/daughters playing football and want to be able to support them better, some just have a passion for football, some come in because they believe there’s a lot of money to be made in football 🙄😅😂 and some are ex players that want to give something back. Listening to people’s reasons for being in the industry is quite fascinating.
At conferences I have met some amazing people from agents to sports lawyers, sporting directors, data scouts, wearable technology companies, astroturf suppliers, sports equipment suppliers, sportswear manufacturers, betting companies, fantasy football start ups, etc. You name it 😅!
I do appreciate that good conferences may charge and not everyone is in a position to afford this, and sometimes logistics is an issue. In that case, look out for free and online conferences 💁🏽♀️.
By the way, I will be attending the Football Transfer Forum football conference at Manchester City Football Club on May 15th and 16th 2024, and I’m pretty excited about it because I enjoyed the last one I attended.
Highlights of my last FTF conference include:
* Meeting Neil Dewsnip Plymouth Argyle Football Club, Tony Sharkey and Adrian Bevington
* Learning from industry leaders during the interview sessions
* Networking with other football stakeholders who aren’t necessarily involved in the player transfer process
* Yummy free snacks 🥪🍱🧁- always an icing on the cake 🤩
PS – If you are looking for a mentor, a conference could be a good place to find one too 👍🏽
Remember to take your hashtag#BusinessCards 🪪💡
Please let us know below which conferences you have recently attended and any feedback.
For those attending hashtag#FTF11, seeeee you there 👋🏽😊🫶🏽
