What’s the difference? 🤷🏽♀️
In simple terms ⬇️
⚽️***EXCLUSIVE***⚽️
This is where you work with one agent and you are not allowed to enter into a representation agreement with any other agent(s) for the duration of the exclusive agreement you signed with the agent.
✔️ Advantage to player
👉🏾 There’s a sense of responsibility and more pressure on the agent to find you a club
❌ Disadvantage to player
👉🏾 Your opportunities may be limited if you sign up with an agent who has a limited network, who is too busy or who just isn’t putting in the work for you
✔️ Advantage to agent
👉🏾 It’s easier to keep things under control because you know what’s going on, plus you will have more say in the player’s career
❌ Disadvantage to agent
👉🏾 There is more pressure to find a club for the player(s)
⚽️***NON-EXCLUSIVE*** ⚽️
This is where you can enter into multiple agreements with different agents.
✔️ Advantage to player
👉🏾 You can widen your network and have a couple of different agents searching for opportunities for you
❌ Disadvantage to player
👉🏾 The different agents you have signed up with may not feel that sense of ownership and there is no real pressure to find you a club
✔️Advantage to agent
👉🏾 Less pressure
❌ Disadvantage to agent
👉🏾 Limited control – Many moons ago, I was caught up in a situation where I was presenting a player to a club, meanwhile he was concluding a contract elsewhere. If I had an exclusive contract with him, I would have been better informed because everything would be coming through me.
Notes
1. An agent is forbidden from entering into a representation agreement with a player that is bound by an exclusive representation contract with another agent, except in the final two months of that Representation agreement;
Ref: FIFA FFAR Article 16(b).
2. A player is allowed to represent themselves in a contract negotiation if they feel confident and experienced enough to do so; Ref: FIFA FFAR Article 12(12) and 12(13).
