No Football Agents

❌ NO FOOTBALL AGENTS ❌

I love it when I see “No Football Agents” on vacancies or when a club states point blank that it doesn’t deal with agents 😂.

Is that because they don’t want to pay an agency fee or because they prefer to deal with players/coaches who potentially don’t know their rights and are easier to exploit? 🤔😔

Why are football agents disliked so much ? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Discuss….. ✍🏽

Well…. My thoughts are that agents drive a hard bargain and try to get the best for their clients. Also, agents protect their clients from some of the unorthodox practices that some unscrupulous clubs get up to. Some clubs don’t like this “barrier”.…

A couple of weeks ago I was assisting an injured Ghanaian player in Asia who was in a sticky situation. His club had “abandoned” him and was not catering for his medical needs, in breach of the employment contract they signed. He even spent his own money (approx. USD3000) on a knee operation.

Someone (who spoke the local language) informed the player that he had overheard a club official saying that the player wouldn’t be paid for the last two months of his contract since he was injured and out of action. Further, the club was planning to make him sign a “Nothing Due Release Letter” before he travelled back home. If he refused to sign it, the club had planned to withhold his passport, which an official of the club had in his possession, and this would obviously force the player into signing it. The player was directed to me by another player, and he dropped me a message.

When I contacted the club, I received a denial (unsurprisingly), stating that there was no intention to do this (despite the fact that the other players had already been paid for April except him 🤔).

The club’s response included a handwritten apology signed by the player. The club stated the player had misunderstood everything and had written an apology. When I asked the player, he denied writing it and wrote the letter again in his own handwriting (very different handwriting styles) to prove he didn’t write it. He also included video evidence of him writing it.

Thankfully, everything has been sorted now and he was paid all monies owed yesterday, including his medical bill. However, the story could have been very different. These are some of the things that clubs won’t dare do to players that have good agents.
